Mixed groups

Eighteen people, one bus, no strangers by day two.

Our mixed departures are capped at eighteen, which is small enough that a homestay can host us and small enough that the group becomes a group. Most people book alone. Almost nobody leaves alone.

What you are actually buying

Six promises, and what happens if we break them

A mixed group lives or dies on how it is run, not where it goes. This is how ours are run.
  • Eighteen, and not one more

The cap is the product. Eighteen is the largest group a village homestay can feed and the largest group in which you still learn everyone's name. We turn away bookings rather than raise it.

  • Most people come alone

About 70% of every mixed group booked solo. Nobody is the odd one out, and there is no clique of eight who came together and talk only to each other.

  • Same-gender twin sharing

Always, unless you have booked with someone and asked otherwise. A private room is available on every trip and the price is on the trip page.

  • Hosts from the region

Tenzin grew up in Spiti. Rehan has crossed the Great Lakes eleven times. This is the difference between a trip and a tour.

  • Two or three real moments

Every itinerary is built backwards from a small number of things you could not have arranged yourself. The rest of the schedule exists to get you to them rested.

  • A code of conduct that bites

Everyone agrees to it at booking. We have removed people mid-trip, at their own cost, and we will do it again. A mixed group only works if that is true.

In their words

From people who came alone

5 out of 5
I joined the trip without knowing anyone and somehow came back with a whole new group of friends. The coordination was really smooth, and the team made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the journey. Definitely a different kind of travel experience.

We travelled as a group and the entire process was surprisingly easy. The team handled the bookings, coordination and on-ground arrangements while we focused on enjoying the destination. Everything felt organised without making the trip feel too scheduled.

This was my first community trip and I genuinely enjoyed the vibe. Meeting people from completely different backgrounds and spending a few days together made the trip much more memorable. Mistiii Tales created a really comfortable environment for everyone.

Fair questions

The things people ask before booking alone

Including the code of conduct, which we would rather you read now than discover later.

Still not sure which trip?

Tell us roughly when you are free and how you like to travel, and we will suggest two.

Ask us
Will I be the only one travelling solo?

Almost certainly not — around 70% of each group books alone. The more common worry turns out to be the opposite one, that a couple of pairs will keep to themselves, which is exactly what the eighteen-person cap and a good host prevent.

What is the gender split usually like?

It varies by trip and season, and it is roughly balanced across the year. Ask us about a specific departure before you book and we will tell you what that one currently looks like rather than quote you an average.

Who am I sharing a room with?

Someone of the same gender from the group, unless you book with a friend or partner and tell us, or you take a private room. On treks it is a shared tent, same principle.

Is there drinking on these trips?

On some, in moderation, and never on trek days or at altitude. If a group's drinking is affecting anyone else's trip, the host will end it. Several of our trips are in places where alcohol is not available at all and we say so on the page.

What is the code of conduct?

Plain language, agreed at booking: no harassment of any kind, no photographing people without asking, no substances, and the host's decision on safety is final. Breaking it means leaving the trip at your own expense, with no refund. This is not decorative — we have enforced it.

Can we book as a group of friends?

Yes, and if there are six or more of you we will run a private departure on dates that suit you instead. Tell us the window and roughly where.

Come alone. That is the normal way to do this.

Pick a date, and we will handle everything between the pick-up and the drop.
