About this trip
A city and an island in one trip, which is what Malaysia is unusually good at. Two nights in Kuala Lumpur for the Petronas towers, Batu caves and street food at a price that still surprises people, then a short flight north to Langkawi for three nights of beaches, an island-hopping boat day and the cable car up Gunung Machinchang. Easy food for Indian travellers, English spoken everywhere, and the least paperwork of any trip on this page.
- Petronas towers at night, and the skybridge in daylight
- Batu caves, and the 272 steps up to them
- Jalan Alor after dark — the street food night the group talks about
- Langkawi island hopping by boat, including the lake in the rock
- The SkyCab and sky bridge at Gunung Machinchang
- A sunset on Cenang beach with nothing scheduled after it
Day by day
6 days, written by the host who runs it.
Day 1Arrive Kuala Lumpur
Airport pick-up and check-in at Bukit Bintang. Evening walk to Jalan Alor for the street food, which is the correct introduction to this country.
Day 2Kuala Lumpur
Batu caves early, before the heat and the crowd. Merdeka square and the old quarter, then the Petronas towers in the evening and the park behind them for the fountains.
Day 3KL to Langkawi
Morning flight north. Afternoon on Cenang beach, and the SkyCab up Machinchang for the sunset if the cloud allows.
Day 4Langkawi
A full island-hopping day by boat — the lake of the pregnant maiden, eagle feeding, and a beach stop. Free evening.
Day 5Langkawi
Nothing scheduled. Kayaking in the mangroves, the duty-free town, or a day on the beach — the group decides the night before.
Day 6Out
Breakfast, then airport drop for the flight home via KL.
